Hi there, my names Ashley Burks and I’m the creator of Tamil Parents. Nowadays many new parents struggle with raising children. It’s extremely difficult to balance work, school and family needs on a daily basis. This is the reason why I decided to start this blog. As a proud mother of two beautiful children, I know first hand how difficult it can be. My son, who is 19 years old, just finished his first year at NYU. My daughter is 16 and already getting ready to apply to college like her big brother.
One thing I learned while my children were growing up was that their needs, as well as the family’s, changed drastically over time. For example, the amount of supervision young children need is much different than that of a late teenager. New challenges also arise as your children grow older. They start to become more independent and want to spend more time with their friends. As they become teenagers they begin to really value their privacy and at times can be difficult to reach.
Many parents say that things get easier as your children grow older (and in some regards this is true). But in my experience, this was one of the hardest moments for me as a parent. I became so used to being the focal point of my children’s lives that it was hard for me to adjust. Raising children is no easy task, I know this from experience. It’s hard work and at times it can be frustrating. But if this blog can help even just one new parent out, then I’ll feel like my job here on Tamil Parents will be accomplished.
